America is a vast endless country with unlimited resources, or at least we thought.
Our country has an insatiable thirst to explore, develop and then move on to the next
great paradise. The country basically expanded west and now has started back in on itself,
and in doing so we have come to realize that we do indeed have a limited amount of space
in which to call our own. Other countries, especially island nations, have come to the realization
early on that they have fixed boundaries with limit amount of land to develop which they use wisely.
While visiting the Southwest region of America in the early 90's, I enjoyed it's wide open spaces.
Revisiting the same area some 12 years later, I was shocked and appalled by the increasing
and endless stream of development from the western cities. This became the catalysis for this work.
The imagery is representative of this encroachment by people on our limited and fragile landscape.
The materials are used to suggest development or the paving over of our landscapes,
a sort of blight on the landscape.
